A student enjoying Leaving Cert. English

Our Mission

1997 to 2006
Our agency was founded in April 1997 in Rathfarnham, Dublin, as Anna Livia Tutors, the first agency of its kind in Dublin.

For our first five years we organised tutors only in and around the city, before switching to national coverage in 2003. At this point all tuitions took place in the student’s home, or in the tutor’s home.

Our successful record of allocating the highest-quality tutors resulted in requests from Educational Welfare Officers across the country asking us to allocate tutors for one-to-one tuitions funded by the DES.

2007 to 2010
In 2007 we changed our payment model to ensure that we would only be paid if the family was happy with the tutor we arranged for them, thus reassuring clients that it would always be in our interests to allocate tuitions only to the very best tutors.

This seems like simple common sense to us but as far as we know, we are still the only agency to make this commitment to clients. To put it bluntly, on most of our competitor’s sites, most of them based outside Ireland, clients pay the site upfront and simply have to hope they’ve chosen the right tutor.

We do the opposite. We allocate the tuition to the very best tutor available, knowing that if the client isn’t happy we won’t get paid. We’d rather not organise the tuition at all than connect a student to a poor tutor.

More than any other change to how we operate, this one has resulted in a significant increase in our growth.

2010 to 2020
In 2010 we became the first Irish agency to operate online, which immediately resulted in another notable increase in the number of tuitions we organise each year.

At this stage it was still unusual for tuitions to take place online.

2020 to the present day
During the pandemic, not only all grinds but all teaching nationally went online.

We decided at this point to make all the tuitions we organise online-only, a decision that was resisted by some at first, but that has now met will broad approval among our clients and tutors.

To further reassure clients about the quality of their tutor, we made the commitment that the first lesson will always be free.

All in all, then, our primary focus has been, and will continue to be, on the quality of our tutors, rather than the quantity. We believe this has been why we have continued to thrive against the competition.
